I’ve wanted to do a juice cleanse for awhile, and even have a juicer at home (which I love), but I guess I just never got around to actually doing one.
If you’ve ever juiced at home before then you know it is time consuming. Don’t get me wrong, I love making juice at home, but to make enough for a whole 5-day cleanse… AKA 30 juices! No, I’m not about all that. One or two at a time is quite enough for me.
However, I recently partnered up with Jus by Julie and completed their juice cleanse a few weeks ago, and this is what I learned:
01. It Was Hard (But Worth It)!
I always knew doing a juice cleanse wouldn’t be a piece of cake. I mean, after all, you’re not eating anything for 5 days and only consuming liquids. But, I quickly realized how much I enjoyed having something warm in my tummy and not just cold liquids. I actually added steamed Broccoli and other non-starchy veggies to my cleanse so I could finish it without feeling deprived – this helped a lot!
02. It Helped With Bloating + Curbed Cravings
This is the worth it part! After even just one day of doing the cleanse, my jeans fit looser, my stomach was flatter and I was much more comfortable. I also wasn’t craving tons of sugars and carbs…. which is always a plus in my opinion.
03. I am Mindlessly Addicted to Caffeine… Even Though It Doesn’t Do Anything for Me
During the cleanse, you cannot drink coffee/caffeine! At first I was unsure how I was even going to make it through. After day two, though, I realized I am so accustomed to grabbing coffee in the morning (or at that 3 PM crash), even though it doesn’t even give me any energy and it is purely out of habit. I am actually going through an elimination diet now to identify food allergies and intolerances of mine, and again, coffee is a no-go. I think I’ll try my best to just avoid it as much as possible from here on out.
04. A 3-Day Cleanse May Be More Appropriate for Most
I found that it was more important to me to listen to my body than follow a strict plan. That being said, after day 3 I was just hungry and wanted food. I called it quits after day 3 and began eating foods again. So, unless you have more discipline than I do, you’re planning on not working out during the cleanse, or you just still aren’t hungry after day 3, I’d say a 3 day cleanse is the perfect amount of time to get the benefits of the cleanse without feeling deprived, but again, that’s just in my opinion.
05. The Juices Were Actually Really Good
Even when I make juice at home, I really have to play around with what I decide to juice to come up with the perfect combinations to make it taste yummy. I usually add pineapple to green juices because it makes them sweeter, and makes them not taste so healthy haha. But honestly, all the the juices in this cleanse were really good. I was pleasantly surprised… you’d never know they were slammed pack full of fruits and veggies. My favorite juice was Green Radiance… and FYI…Spicy Lemonade has a kick to it, haha!
If you’ve never done a juice cleanse before, I’d definitely recommend doing one. It’s a nice reset in my opinion. Have you ever done one? Thinking about one? Share your thoughts below!
